Delete Storage on Category Opt-Out

Where to find it

This setting lives in your Cookie Consent configuration, under Advanced Settings → Experience. It's off by default and available to all Cookie Consent customers.

What it does

When enabled, opting out of a previously-accepted category automatically deletes the cookies and local storage items classified under that category, right on the visitor's device.

How it works

• Applies the moment a visitor withdraws consent for a category (Marketing, Analytics, Personalization, etc.) and clicks Save. No page refresh is needed.

• Only removes cookies/local storage items that have an existing classification rule under the opted-out categories. It does not wipe all cookies or storage on the device, only what your CMP configuration has classified.

• Essential category items are never deleted.

• If a script tries to re-drop a blocked cookie afterward, the CMP continues to block it per your existing rules.

• Web only. This setting does not apply to mobile SDKs.

Remember to publish

After turning this toggle on (or off), you'll need to publish your configuration for the change to take effect on your live site.

Before you turn this on

• Some third-party vendors may try to re-create a deleted cookie. If a script isn't classified correctly, or drops a cookie with a different syntax, that item may not get deleted or blocked.

• This setting is optional and doesn't affect your Osano Guarantee status. No current legislation requires deleting on-device storage specifically. This is about stricter, more transparent enforcement for customers who want it.
