Request Types List

To the right of the Form Configuration page navigation panel is a list of request types that may be eligible to display on your form in the order they will display on your form. The conditions under which each request type will display for a requester and the form of verification used to verify requests submitted are listed below the name of each request type:

You can re-arrange the display order of request types on your form by clicking on a request type displayed here and dragging and dropping it to a new place on this list.

Request Types Detail

To the right of the request types list are some additional fields you can edit to change how each request type will display for requesters:

  • Request Title

    • This is the name of the request type that will display as the title of the request type card on your form. You can preview what this will look like on the Styles tab.

  • Request Description

    • This is the description that will display below the request title on the request type card on your form. You can preview what this will look like on the Styles tab.

  • Request Instructions

    • These are the instructions that will display at the top of your form once a requester has selected this request type on your form. You can preview what this will look like on the Styles tab.

Jurisdictions

Below the editable fields above is the Jurisdictions sub-section. This section controls which request types will display for which requesters:

  • Enable for jurisdictions where it is required by law

    • When this radio button is enabled, the request type will display only for requesters located in jurisdictions granting this privacy right by law. The Location selection will display as a drop-down to allow a requester to alter their location to display the rights that correspond to the location of their residency.

    • Note: This option is only available on request types that correspond with legal privacy rights. This option is the default setting for these kinds of request types on newly created forms. Request Types that do not correspond with legal privacy rights e.g. 'Other' will not display this option.

    • Note: Osano automatically manages jurisdiction mapping for request types set to this option. See FAQ section below for details on how this affects your form over time.

  • Enable for everyone

    • When this radio button is enabled, the request type will display for all requesters, regardless of their location.

    • Note: This is the option is the default setting for the 'Other' request type which is intended to serve all request type inquiries

  • Disable for everyone

    • When this radio button is enabled, the request type will not display for any requester, even if the request type is required by law. Take care when selecting this option that requester rights are still being provided by an alternative means outside the form.

    • Note: This option is the default setting for custom request types that do not correspond with legal privacy rights e.g. 'Custom Request Type 1'.

Verification Method(s)

Below the Jurisdictions sub-section is the Verification Method(s) sub-section. This section controls which verification method(s) will be used for requests submitted with this request type. This section also controls whether authorized representatives can submit requests on behalf of someone else for this request type:

  • No verification required

    • When this radio button is enabled, requests submitted for this request type will not require any verification by the requester and will immediately display on the request list page for processing.

  • Email verification only

    • When this radio button is enabled, requests submitted for this request type will trigger an email to the original requester that the requester must verify before the request will display on the request list page for processing.

  • Email and proof of identity verification

    • When this radio button is enabled, requests submitted for this request type will require email verification and will also require the requester to upload proof of their identity prior to submitting the request. After the requester has verified their email the request will display on the request list page for processing; the subject rights manager must verify the proof of identity uploaded before the request processing can continue.

Authorized Agent Request Submissions

When enabled, authorized representatives can submit requests on behalf of someone else.

The subject rights manager must verify the proof of authorization before request processing can continue.

  • Email and proof of authorization verification

    • When this radio button is enabled, requests submitted for this request type will require the authorized agent to upload proof they are authorized to submit the request on behalf of the requester. Upon submission an email will be sent to the requester asking them to verify their email for the request to continue for processing; the subject rights manager must verify the proof of authorization uploaded before request processing can continue.

Note: Correspondence on authorized agent requests (including notifications for request completion/rejection) occurs with the authorized representative rather than the data subject.

FAQ(s)

Why did a new request type suddenly appear on my form?
For request types set to "Enable for jurisdictions where it is required by law," Osano automatically adds new privacy rights to your intake form as they go into effect in the jurisdictions where they apply. You don't need to track new laws yourself—Osano handles it for you. This isn't a change you made; it reflects a new right becoming applicable in a jurisdiction your form covers.

Can I stop a request type from displaying on my form?
Yes. Select Disable for everyone for that request type.

If I disable a request type, will it stay disabled?
Not necessarily. Since jurisdiction mapping is automatic, a disabled request type could become newly applicable again as laws change elsewhere. If you want to keep it off your form permanently, you may need to disable it again when that happens.
