Ignored Scripts / Cookies

Updated 6 days ago

Overview

The Ignored section in Osano Cookie Consent allows you to move scripts and cookies out of your Discoveries Section that you do not want to classify or manage through consent. Scripts and cookies in the Ignored section behave differently depending on your compliance mode:

  • Permissive Mode: Ignored items run as if they were essential—they are not blocked and are removed from the Discoveries section.

  • Strict Mode: Ignored items are blocked entirely, just like non-essential items that have not been consented to.

When and Why to Ignore Items

You might want to ignore scripts or cookies if:

  • They are test or development items

  • They are not relevant to your compliance requirements

  • They could might not originate from your site (See more here: Foreign / Unknown Discoveries FAQ)

Ignoring can help keep your Discoveries section clean and let you focus on items that require action.

The Ignored Section

Once ignored, scripts and cookies are moved to the Ignored section. Items in this section are:

  • Not shown in the Discoveries section

  • Subject to compliance mode behavior (see Important Notes)

Important Notes

  • Compliance Mode Effects:

  • Permissive Mode: Ignored scripts and cookies run as if they were essential. They are not blocked and are not subject to user consent.

  • Strict Mode: Ignored scripts and cookies are blocked entirely, regardless of their original classification. This may break site functionality if essential items have been moved into the ignored section.

  • Duplicates: It is possible for the same script or cookie to appear in both the Rules and Ignored sections if not managed carefully. This can lead to the configuration not being able to save/publish. Please be careful not to ignore scripts or cookies that are similar to scripts and cookies already in the Rules section.

  • When copying configs, Ignored Rules are not copied to the new configuration. If those items are rediscovered in the config, you can ignore them at that time.
