The Data Map is a powerful tool within the Osano Privacy Platform that provides a visual representation of your data stores and their relationships.
Accessing Your Data Map
Access your Data Map by navigating to the Data Mapping section of your Osano menu and selecting "Data Map."
Understanding Your Data Map
Your Data Map visually reflects the data stores you’ve configured in Osano. The appearance and detail of your map depend on how much information you’ve added to your data stores. This includes connections between data stores and any external vendors.
Multiple Views and Filters
The map offers various views and filters that allow you to focus on specific data sets. You can filter by:
- Source: Isolate data stores originating from particular sources.
- Organizations: Isolate data stores that belong to particular organizations.
- Owner: Isolate data stores that share the same owner(s).
- Classification: Isolate data stores that share one or more classifications of data.
- Manually Added Labels: Filter based on labels you’ve manually added to your data stores.
These filters help you manipulate the Data Map to show only the content relevant to your needs, making it easier to analyze and manage your data.
Exploring the Map Layout
On the Data Map, you’ll see a list of your data stores, each with its added context, including directional data flows based on how data stores may send or receive information. These flows illustrate connections from one data store to another, as well as from data stores to external vendors if applicable.

Visual Differences:
- Data Stores: Represented with more detailed information, including classifications, labels, and ownership [Color Marker: Purple]
- Vendors: Displayed differently with limited fields, such as privacy scores and contact information. These elements can be managed within the Data Store section of your Osano application. [Color Marker: Blue]
Manipulating the Data Map
You can actively interact with your Data Map by:
- Moving Icons: Dragging the icons on the map to reorganize the visual layout.
- Creating Associations: Manually associating data stores and vendors if connections don’t already exist on the map.
To add more context to your data stores, such as labels or classifications, go to the Data Store section of the Osano tool. These updates will be reflected in your Data Map, helping you maintain a clear and organized overview of your data flows.
- Exporting your Data Map: For ease of sharing with stakeholders, you can download a PNG of your data map by clicking the "Download" button in the top right-hand corner.
By effectively using the Data Map, you can gain deeper insights into how data moves within your organization and with external vendors, ensuring better data management and compliance.
