When managing your scripts and cookies in Osano's Cookie Consent Manager, you will encounter two options when publishing changes: Keep and Publish or Clear and Publish. Here's what each option means and when to use them.
What Happens with "Keep and Publish"?
-
Keep and Publish will leave all your uncategorized scripts and cookies in the Cookie Consent Manager for future review. Managed scripts and cookies will remain untouched.
- Use Case:
- If you're in the process of classifying scripts and cookies and want to come back later to finish the task, this is the best option. It preserves your current progress without clearing any data.
- Use Case:
What Happens with "Clear and Publish"?
-
Clear and Publish will clear your list of scripts and cookies in the Cookie Consent Manager, making room for new discoveries. This does not affect categorized rules; your scripts and cookies that have already been categorized will continue to follow their set rules, even if they no longer appear in the interface.
- Use Case:
- This option is ideal if you want a fresh start, especially if your current list contains a lot of irrelevant or outdated scripts (e.g., extensions or testing scripts).
- It’s also useful when moving from staging to production and you want to rescan and clean up the detected scripts for a clean view of the live site.
- Use Case:
Adding Notes for Versioning
After selecting either option, you will be prompted to provide notes regarding the changes made in the configuration. These notes will be associated with versioning functionality, helping you track updates over time. We recommend writing a brief note summarizing the changes for future reference.
